transformation- kitchen

I don't have any "before" pictures, since it was ugly and we didn't spend much time in there... No offense to the previous owners, but there was nothing charming at all about it. My mom tore the whole thing down and designed from scratch. Her dream for the kitchen was for it be a place to hold all of us (the Memorial-Day weekend crew I introduced in a previous post) so we could sit on the counter, cook, bake, drink, etc... Do our own thing, but be together.

You know how we're all not allowed to "play ball in the house"? Well, when the house is gutted, I think that's exactly what you should do~

{circa 2006}

So without technical training at all, my mom set out to build her dream kitchen. Her theory, as she explained to me, is that the art of cooking requires lots of energy and creativity and moving back and forth... so she does not believe in "efficiency" in the kitchen at all~ "Things don't have to be in the most logical or efficient place, but in the most happy place". And so, that is exactly what she got...

A place for chic cooking (or modeling?)-

and a place for anniversary cake-cutting-

and for goofing around and probably distracting the chefs-

and for baking fun treats!

And I think she's done a pretty great job!
